What we are about can best be described as practical Christianity. Jesus said that all the laws and commands of God can be summed up in these two instructions: Love God with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself. At times we either do well or struggle with these two instructions. Whether as a pastor or a newcomer to Christianity this is were we live and breathe.
As a group of Christians coming together as a church, we desire to live in reality. Jesus said, “The truth shall set you free”. One of the primary truths that we embrace as our reality is that we often miss the mark (missing the mark is the definition of sin) of what God intends for our lives. To own the fact that we are on a journey with successes and failures is simply to live in reality or truth. As a church, we are casual people that encourage each other to come as you are. No need to be at your Sunday best and no need to pretend. Simply be yourself.
Christianity is about life change. It is moving from the self-centered lives we have been used to living, to a life guided by God, through our personal relationship with Jesus Christ. God has a plan for our lives that offers a future and a hope. It’s a free gift of God. We didn’t earn it. We simply accept Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins and allow him to be Lord of our lives. We benefit by coming together as Christians, encouraging one another and loving one another just as Christ loves us.
What we are about as a church is a group of Christians willing to live life together. Sharing the struggles and telling the stories of God’s love and guidance that brings about change. It’s through these stories that life change occurs. It’s through these real life stories that I, as a pastor, have been encouraged and challenged to grow.
Practical Christianity is living life one step at a time, reaching out for a hand of support, offering a hand of support. Through practical Christianity you will find your love for God and each other continually growing. It is living life with hope and thanksgiving to the glory of God.
